Hampshire County Council approached us with an expression of interest to undertake electrical works at a local library. From the outset, the project demanded meticulous planning and collaboration. Once we reviewed their documents and drawings, we accepted the challenge and scheduled an initial on-site meeting. This allowed us to assess the working areas, address initial questions, and consult directly with both the Hampshire representative and the library manager.
Using the plans provided, our estimators calculated material requirements and sought supplier quotes to ensure accuracy and cost-effectiveness. Every aspect of the job was carefully priced, from labour and materials to access equipment and handover documentation. A completed tender was submitted to Hampshire for review, prompting discussions on adjustments to refine the scope. Once these changes were agreed upon, we awaited the necessary approvals to move forward.

Several logistical challenges became apparent early on. The library’s community outreach activities meant it remained open to the public most days, limiting our access to just two working days a week. Additionally, the site required daily setup and breakdown to ensure it was left functional and welcoming after each shift. Unique factors, such as the shared lighting systems with an adjoining school and police building, added further complexity.
Our estimators carefully crafted their quote around the likelihood of extra labour as a result. They did so, making sure material costs were still accounted for and all was within budget.

Now in the pre-start phase, the project is set to commence in December of 2024. A final pre-construction meeting has been scheduled with the lead engineer to ensure every detail is accounted for. Once all of this is in place, we will begin the work on the Library. All this is testament to our commitment to delivering seamless results even under challenging conditions.
