We spoke to Marcus, one of our lovely apprentices, on his experience working for Hi-Tech and his advice for other apprentices. Marcus is one of our apprentices who works in our Fareham office, so his role is a little different from a regular construction apprentice as he is almost always in the office. He is our Apprentice Service Administrator responsible for booking in works and seeing them through to the very end. He builds fabric teams, coordinates work with sites and liaises with them often, providing exceptional service. Most of the reactive work we do is closed by him, after he has made sure beforehand that all works are up to a good standard with professional mannerism carried out on site.
I took an apprenticeship for a couple of reasons. I wanted to stay in education in case I wanted to go to Uni in the future. The second reason was for the experience of work. It gives me the experience of a working environment while also getting paid.
The one word I would use to describe my apprenticeship would be Learning. I have learnt a lot about construction since being here, so maybe a career in that industry later.
I enjoy being around a friendly and funny group of people. Everyone is so nice and we all have a laugh while ensuring that work is completed. I enjoy the experience too, learning on the job while doing college work.

One thing I like about the company is their endeavour to keep becoming better every day. Every member of staff is constantly trying to better themselves to help the company become great. Regarding my colleagues, I like how easy they are to get along with. In our office, we can all have a good chat and a laugh, so I feel welcomed into their space. They don’t make me feel lower than them.
My piece of advice would be to keep going, I felt a bit shy at first, however it’s very normal. Now I am out of my shell and enjoy it fully.
