New Commercial Kitchen to Support Needs of Newly Refurbished Pub

When customers request redecoration, we don’t just do the work and leave. We make sure our customers are left with up-to-date facilities to support their new needs once they reopen.

A full refit and decorations to the outside of your pub is sure to bring in masses of fresh faces! However, an old kitchen simply lacks the facilities to keep up. That’s why this customer, Crook and Shears in Upper Clatford, decided to invest in a brand new commercial kitchen. We were happy to oblige.

The Challenge at Hand

When it fell under new management, were called in to work on this lovely Grade II listed, 17th-century inn with a beautiful, thatched roof. It needed a refresh, with painting and decorating to the exterior and giving parts of the interior a new look too. It was later decided that we would also design and install and new commercial kitchen for them as well. We wanted to make sure they had all the necessary facilities to keep delivering the delicious, hearty, meals they boast. Normally this is quite a simple task, but the building is a Grade II thatched property. With a single-phase electric supply and limited gas, options become limited.

Prior to designing anything it’s important to understand your constraints and what the client is trying to achieve. Hi-Tech’s electrical team first carried out a load survey to work out how much electricity we had available and enquired with the utility companies as to upgrading gas and electrical supplies. Once we’d ascertained this, we then had to look at the feasibility of going through planning applications and how we would install the necessary noise and odour control, all keeping in mind the fire risk that the thatched roofing presented.

Smart Upgrades to Commercial Kitchens

Once all of this was understood, we started menu consultation to understand what we could specify in the new kitchen. This was to make sure we would allow the business to operate with a thriving food trade.

Ultimately, upgrading gas supplies and installing the required ventilation didn’t make commercial sense. With that in mind, the clever bods from our mechanical and electrical teams got to work. They designed an all-electric kitchen with local grease extraction and temperature-controlled fans to get the all-important air changes in.

We planned and rebuilt the entire kitchen, installed new whiteroc, flooring, pipework and new electrical supplies. We also futureproofed the installation to enable additional supplies should they ever decide to upgrade in the future.
