About the role
We are recruiting a Technical Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day delivery of reactive and planned maintenance and small works across a varied portfolio of commercial and hospitality sites. This is a hands-on management role in a busy, process-led operation, working closely with senior management and supporting teams to deliver consistent service, quality and commercial results.
Responsibilities
Operational delivery
- Oversee the planning, allocation, progress and close-out of approximately 1,500 maintenance and small works jobs per month, including reactive and planned electrical, fabric, mechanical and subcontracted works.
- Monitor service levels, deadlines, customer communications, job records, surveys, quotations, uplifts and procurement, intervening to resolve delays and service issues.
- Ensure works meet client specifications, statutory and health and safety requirements, and company quality standards.
- Maintain regular contact with clients, subcontractors and internal departments, escalating issues and providing clear operational reporting.
People management
- Manage and support Service Delivery, Mechanical, Electrical and Fabric Managers, together with relevant direct-delivery teams.
- Coordinate recruitment, induction, one-to-ones, appraisals, training, performance management and compliance with company HR processes.
- Oversee labour allocation, timesheet queries and labour-cost accuracy, working with managers to maintain productivity and consistent standards.
Commercial control
- Oversee commercial performance and reporting for small works, including jobs below £5,000, representing approximately £6m in annual revenue.
- Review job costs, labour, materials, subcontractor expenditure, purchasing and margins; ensure completed jobs are ready for accurate and timely invoicing.
- Work with Finance and Commercial teams to resolve cost queries, invoice holds and other exceptions, and report against agreed financial objectives.
Procedures, safety and improvement
- Apply, maintain and review established procedures covering order checks, customer portals, allocation, quotations, subcontracting, job reviews, complaints, invoicing and aged works.
- Carry out audits, follow up corrective actions and support practical improvements to service delivery, safety, customer experience and cost control.
- Work within agreed company policies, reporting arrangements and senior-management approval processes.
About You
- Experience managing reactive maintenance, technical services or building-services operations, ideally with direct labour and subcontractors.
